25 word pitch: A schizophrenic man struggles with his illness as he discovers that his son has been murdered and he himself is the culprit.


The scene is set for late in the evening. A young man is walking around town minding his own business. It's revealed that he is being followed by a much older man but he's unaware. The older man follows the young man into a quiet street and just when he is about to get in his car, the old man grabs him from behind and stabs him. The scene shifts to an elderly man sitting in his living room looking at a painting made by a very young boy. The writing on the painting reveals that its made by his son. A diegetic sound can be heard from a phone's receiver of a woman asking him to come identify his son's body. The man places the receiver back down and a medicine bottle comes in focus. The medicine is for Schizophrenia. The scene shifts to the man walking out of his house and getting in the car. As he closes the door, a blood stained hand-print can be seen on the door.

Research and Planning: Schizophrenia

I researched on the symptoms of Schizophrenia so I can have a better understanding of them and so I can incorporate them in my film opening effectively.

Research and Planning: New Idea

I have been preoccupied with my A2 media project and thinking of a new idea has been quite a struggle. It took me about two weeks to think of something good enough for my film opening. I've been re-watching my favorite thriller films like Memento and Shutter Island this past week in hopes that some idea will struck me. And it finally happened!
I'm crazy for a good story-line so the idea really excites me. It's quite similar to the two films I mentioned above as they've been a big inspiration.

The basic story is that a man murders his own son but he doesn't know that because he is schizophrenic.

I'll start devising a proper storyline and storyboard and update soon!

SETBACK

Unfortunately on the morning of the shoot, Jiya Khan informed us that she can't make it and that she is dropping media as a subject. Since the actress for our film opening was Jiya's friend, she wasn't willing to act without Jiya there. So we decided to postpone the shooting until we find an actress. In the few days it took to find an actress Zain decided to leave media as well and Sultan followed suit.

I'll be working solo from here onward. Although things have gotten pretty difficult now considering I'm giving composite (AS and A2) exams this year but I believe this will open doors of learning for me. I'll get the opportunity to understand all sorts of work that goes into filming a project as I'll be doing them myself. I believe everything happens for a reason, and I hope this works in my favor.

SHOOTING PLAN

We've decided to shoot the film opening on Sunday 10th January as that's when we all (cast + crew) are free at the same time. We'll start early in the morning (around 9) so we can get done with the entire shoot by 7 pm. Sultan will bring Ali to the shoot, and Jiya will bring Anosh.
